Hurray! The First Cohort IITA AHIP Graduates
The International Institute of Tropical Agriculture (IITA) partnered with the Mastercard Foundation and Adolescent Health and Information Project (AHIP) Kano started an innovative approach to agribusiness training and start-up for Nigeria’s young people called the Young Africa Works-IITA Project. This project was developed to enable 30 million young people in Africa to access dignified and fulfilling work by 2030.
IITA has launched the project this year with a special focus on skills development, decent employment, and entrepreneurship opportunities to secure work in agri-food value chains for the next five years.
The First Cohort which comprises 110 young people commenced its 6 weeks of training at AHIP Institute of Human Development, Yautai Link, Maiduguri Road, Tarauni, Kano on 1st of February 2021 and focuses on training young Nigerian women and men between 18 and 35 years to become self-employed or gain employment in agri-food systems.
Today, AHIP IITA has successfully exposed the First Cohort to the reality of operating a successful agribusiness enterprise. It is not a dream anymore, it’s a reality. Congratulations!
